How to create a Belgium Bleu

The creation of our ‘double-muscled’ beef.

Belgium Blue cattle are characterized by their extreme muscling, which is the result of a mutation in a myostatin gene that prevents control of muscular growth.

Modern breeds of Belgian Blue cattle are the creation of genetic engineering with the specific goal of expanding the muscular content of the animals as much as possible.

Although the advantages of this breed (healthy and lean meat/lower production price per kg meat) there are many that question the ethical part of genetic alterations.

The images are part of a document that contains a map with three booklets, the booklets stand for the different approaches within this controversial subject.
